27 oktober 2013 - Pompeii, Italië
Here we are with the first proper update about our new live on the road! Before we will fill your mind with all the adventures of last week, I would like to mention that we are doing great. Our stomachs are still working, the car is driving and we still haven’t smashed each other’s heads in. So, we left Holland a little bit in a rush. We still had to build in the back of our car at Richard’s place, and at Anouk’s place we had to move all her stuff to the attic. But then we finally left! We crossed five countries in one day and spend the night in the sixth, Switzerland. We could stay at Anne-Mi’s place in Basel (a friend from ours from Oman) where we did some catching up.
The second day we left early, crossed the Alps without any problems, apart from a broken windscreen wiper, and ended up in Florence where we drank some cocktails with Melanie, a friend of Anouk. Somewhere south of Milano we’d picked up two German girls who were hitchhiking their way to Sienna, so we decided to drive there the next day, drop them off, and have lunch.
We continued our way through the beautiful green hills of Tuscany and Umbria to Lago di Trasimeno where we stayed for the night. As the plan still involved catching the boat on Sunday at Salerno, we decided to drive straight south and find a campsite in the area. As the boat is delayed for another day, tonight we will spend our fourth night at Pompeii.
This gave us plenty of time to visit the volcano Vesuvius and the old Roman town of Pompeii, and try to mend some minor problems to our car. That said, we still haven’t entirely figured out the wiper-issue and the correct wiring for our solar panel.
Four days on the southern flanks of the Vesuvius are a little bit too much though, and we are happy to embark on our ferry/container vessel tomorrow morning. There is probably no internet on board, so our next update will be from Israel, shalom!
Xx
Snel meer updates, heeel leuk!
Kus voor jullie!
